Reimagining A Timeless Icon

The Equitable Building was initially constructed in 1867 in the heart of Manchester's historical center, specifically in St. Ann's Square. Initially, it was an insurance building that eventually became the renowned Habitat department store.

In 2014, HBD purchased the building and appointed our creative design agency to reposition it into a modern workspace offering co-working and private offices while translating the prestige and heritage of its location into a modern working experience.

Our strategy focused on creating a contemporary workspace that retains the building's timeless charm while establishing an 'Equitable' brand. This brand aims to offer high-end, adaptable workspaces while fostering a distinct work-life culture. The structure provided most of this inspiration and a sense of history reflected in our aesthetic approach. A balance of highly crafted, natural materials presented in a minimalist context allows both the new and old to complement each other, respecting the past and future of this building.

After completion, the project will offer 5400 sqm of workspace spread across 4 floors, which will include communal amenity spaces, meeting rooms, and event spaces.
